You may purchase the hand base or the electric drive base (or both), and all accessories will interchange between the two, locking in place easily with a twist of the wrist. An optional adapter will allow you to drive Family Grain Mill accessories with a Bosch Universal or Bosch Compact mixer, or now you also have the option of purchasing a FGM grain mill head or flaker head that will fit directly (and exclusively) onto the Bosch Universal mixer (see these new direct-to-Bosch attachments below, by clicking here.)

Versatile Multi-Grain milling: The grind is infinitely adjustable, from fine for bread flour, to medium for "Cream Of Wheat" style cereals or cornmeal, or coarse for steel cut or cracked grain (if you want to, you can adjust it to such a coarse setting that grains aren't even cracked). The milling head grinds wheat, oats, corn, soybeans, rye, barley, rice, spelt, flax, buckwheat, millet, coffee, kamut, quinoa, and sesame (doesn't grind popcorn). It will also mill some chopped, dry, non-oily herbs and spices. The Family Grain Mill grinds cool to preserve nutrients. Large 5 cup hopper capacity.

Nutrient Preservation: The milling head's conical steel burrs work grain with a shearing action to avoid the "crushing friction" that creates high heat in common small grain mills — excess heat that can quickly destroy many of the nutrients in your flour. Fast & Easy to Use: One cup of fine flour is produced in just 2 minutes in hand operation, or a minute and a half with the 150 watt electric motor base. (It takes about 2/3 cup of wheat to make a cup of fine flour.) Because it doesn't grind with friction, the FGM's hand operated base turns easily, much easier than most hand operated mills. Overall time/effort is four times less than required by most hand mills — and most mills still won't produce as fine a flour. The Family Grain Mill hopper has a generous 5 cup capacity.

Quick Compare Guide:

The Family Grain Mill is much easier to turn than most hand operated grain mills. Will not grind as fast as an impact chamber mill such as the Nutrimill, or quite as fine of a flour though still fine enough for bread, but is much more versatile, as you can grind anywhere from cracking grains to flour with the turn of a knob. Oily grains/nuts such as peanuts and seasame will not hurt the Family Grain mill, as they will on an impact chamber mill such as the Nutrimill. Will Grind approx. 1 cup in 2 minutes w/ motor, and slightly less by hand. Though the Family Grain mill will not grind as fine as some of the impact chamber mills, this is much more versatile, and the easiest to operate hand mill we have ever tried.
